BORN IN THE WIRRAL of Scottish and Yorkshire parentage, and after studying French and German at Pembroke College, Cambridge, David Pendlebury came to the Persian language through reading Persian classics in translation. He has combined careers in language teaching, both in the UK and overseas, with a lifelong interest in the ideas expressed so powerfully in Central Asia and the Middle East through the medium of poetry.
