BORN IN AFGHANISTAN in 1207, Jalaluddin Rumi was without question the greatest Sufi mystic and poet in the Persian language. He was the author of more than 30,000 verses, the most celebrated of which is his Masnavi. Rumi moved to Konya, in modern Turkey, where he is remembered for establishing the practice of ‘Whirling Dervishes’.
